I called Groupon and after going through lots of hoops for them to find my account (since it’s not longer attached to my email and that’s how they store the accounts) they said the orders did get cancelled and that there no pending charges and my credit cards were removed from the account. I also could have a new password sent to my account because my email was no longer connected to it. Probably in the meantime that I was changing this stuff in my account, the thief had changed my account email address, so even with the changed password, I could no longer get in to my account. I was actually able to cancel the purchases and remove my stored credit cards so no other purchases could be made, but when I tried to change my password, it wouldn’t let me back in. I couldn’t get into my account with my normal password at first, but then somehow I did, and sure enough, there were two pending purchases for netbooks totaling about $1200.
I decided I should log into Groupon just in case to make sure my account looked okay. My initial reaction that this was spam and it was a phishing email trying to get me to log in to my account through the link (removed above) so they could get my info.
